Moms Say: Fund Health Care, Open the Government.

“Republican leaders control the U.S. House, the U.S. Senate, and the White House, which makes a government shutdown entirely in their control and their responsibility to fix. This fact is not lost on the moms of America. Also not lost on the moms of America is the fact that our country is facing a health care crisis the Trump administration and Republican leaders in Congress created with their unprecedented, reckless cuts to Medicaid and their refusal to extend the premium tax credits that make health insurance affordable for tens of millions of moms and families. Instead of taking simple steps to reverse the damage, protect our health, and lower costs for working families, Republican leaders are shutting down our government. Their cruelty is compounded by threats to lay off large numbers of hardworking federal employees.
“Federal workers and so many others who are being harmed by this shutdown need our paychecks to put food on the table, heat our homes, pay for child care and school supplies for our kids, and more. We know that if the Affordable Care Act premium tax credits expire at the end of the year, 24 million of us will face skyrocketing health care costs and premium increases averaging 75 percent, which we simply cannot afford, and about 4 million people will lose health insurance altogether. Our health, our lives, and our livelihoods should matter. Those of us who are being hurt by this shutdown – working families, moms, kids, veterans, military and government workers, and so many others – are not pawns in a political chess game. Each day Republican leaders continue this shutdown brings harm to moms, families, and small businesses, and deep, lasting damage to our economy.
“Republicans control the White House, the U.S. House, and the U.S. Senate. It is their job to get the FY26 spending bill done in a way that will boost moms, families, and working people by protecting our health, improving our education, and opening doors to opportunity for all of us. They are failing miserably in that most basic responsibility. Moms want Republican leaders in Congress to fund health care and end the shutdown, now.”
