President Trump: Moms Need Housing, Health Care, Child Care, and SNAP, Not Rigged Elections
Lisa Lederer, 202/371-1996
“Today, the country got yet another reminder that President Donald Trump’s priority is rigging elections to hold onto his personal power, not solving the affordability crisis that is driving hardship, hunger, homelessness, and poverty for millions of hardworking moms and families. At a time when moms and families are struggling with soaring rents, unaffordable child care, and skyrocketing grocery prices, it is disgraceful that he is holding hostage vitally important, bipartisan legislation that would make housing more affordable in order to pressure Congress to pass a voter suppression bill.
“The SAVE America Act would undermine our democracy by disenfranchising tens of millions of married women, moms, and rural, young and low-income voters. It is a shameful attack on our democracy that would require states to hand over their private information to the federal government and to demand forms of photo identification that many Americans do not readily have in order to vote. It would impose restrictive photo identification requirements and also threaten vote by mail systems that millions of Americans rely on.
“Moms across the country are reaching out to lawmakers to say the Save America Act is unacceptable voter suppression. Moms demand that Congress reject it, whether it’s included in the National Defense Authorization Act, a reconciliation bill, or as standalone legislation. We will not allow President Trump, Republicans in Congress, or other extremists to silence women’s voices in our elections.”
