MomsRising.org’s ‘MomsHealth.org’ Website Provides Information about Health Care Options Under the Affordable Care Act
September 30, 2013
MomsRising.org, an online and on-the-ground grassroots organization for moms and everyone who has a mom, today launched its MomsHealth.org website to provide information about new affordable health care options and opportunities under the new health care law. The site links consumers to personalized information about health care coverage options; shares five ways the health care law will help families; tells stories about people who have benefited from the Affordable Care Act (ACA); and includes a place to sign up to join MomsRising.org’s Wellness Wonder Team of volunteers who are educating friends, family members, neighbors and others about new preventive care and consumer protection opportunities under the ACA. People who join the MomsRising.org Wellness Wonder Team effort will help spread the word to at least ten people in their local communities about how to enroll in the insurance marketplaces.
Beginning tomorrow, for the first time ever, thanks to the new health care law, millions of uninsured Americans will be able to shop for an affordable health insurance plan that covers everything from doctor and hospital visits, to maternity care and prescriptions.
MomsRising created MomsHealth.org because too many people still do not know about their health insurance options. A poll conducted this summer by Kaiser Family Foundation found that four in ten Americans are unaware that the Affordable Care Act still stands. A survey for Enroll America found that nearly 80 percent of eligible Americans don’t know about the new health insurance options.
“Despite all its benefits, the Affordable Care Act is still confusing to a lot of people, so we’re using Mom Power to explain it,” said Kristin Rowe-Finkbeiner, Executive Director & CEO of MomsRising.org. “As the primary decision-makers about their families’ health care, moms are uniquely suited to educate others about health care and about new, affordable health care coverage options. And we’re giving moms the tools they need to help get their friends and family covered too."
Through the MomsHealth.org website, anyone can get resources about the Affordable Care Act to share on social media, learn more about the law, and move directly to the healthcare.gov to get personalized health coverage quotes and enroll.
Earlier this year, MomsRising.org collected stories from moms and dads across the country about how the Affordable Care Act has already made a difference in their lives and compiled them in a book.
