Moms Cheer Selection of Julie Su as U.S. Secretary of Labor

Statement of Kristin Rowe-Finkbeiner, Executive Director and CEO of MomsRising, the online and on-the-ground organization of more than one million mothers and their families, on the selection of Julie Su to serve as U.S. Secretary of Labor:

“President Biden made an inspired choice in selecting Deputy Secretary Julie Su to serve as our next U.S. Secretary of Labor. She is a brilliant, proven leader and a powerful champion of low-wage and women workers, including moms, immigrants, and workers of color. She has deep knowledge of the challenges faced by moms in the workforce, the benefits a care infrastructure would provide, and the solutions we need.

“Deputy Secretary Su has earned the respect of state and federal government officials, as well as both union and business leaders. She is supremely qualified to carry on Secretary Walsh’s legacy and to carry out the Biden/Harris administration’s agenda to support the middle class and all this country’s working people. Her experience fighting exploitation and defending and expanding workers’ rights is extraordinary.

“Su’s appointment will make our cabinet both stronger and more diverse. The U.S. Senate should confirm her without delay.”
