It’s LGBTQIA+ Equal Pay Awareness Day. We Need Bold Action to End Wage Discrimination Against All Workers.

“Our country should be doing much more to end the painful, unjustifiable wage gap contributing to shamefully high poverty rates for LGBTQIA+ adults. On average, LGBTQIA+ workers are paid just 90 cents for every dollar paid to cis, straight workers. Many are paid even less due to the intersection of racism, transphobia and homophobia, with transgender women and LGBTQIA+ Latinas facing the most punitive wage gaps. As inflation soars, it’s more urgent than ever that we close this disgraceful wage gap, which is robbing LGBTQIA+ workers of the resources needed to build successful lives and harming our economy.
“Instead of addressing this urgent issue, since taking office President Trump’s administration has launched an all-out assault on the LGBTQIA+ community’s civil rights, including by shamefully weaponizing the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC). The EEOC was created to protect all workers from discrimination, but under Trump’s leadership, the agency has refused to enforce employment protections for transgender and nonbinary workers, erased critical guidance protecting LGBTQIA+ workers from harassment, and is now threatening to eliminate the data collection needed to track and address pay discrimination. America’s moms want the EEOC to fulfill its mandate to ensure equal opportunity for all.
“This Pride Month, we demand that LGBTQIA+ workers be able to access their full paychecks. Many moms are LGBTQIA+ community members or allies, and we all have a stake in this fight. Moms are committed to building a future where no one’s labor is devalued, and everyone is treated fairly at work – regardless of gender identity, sexual orientation, race or any other factor. Ending the LGBTQIA+ wage gap will make our country’s families, communities and economy stronger and more successful.”
