Reckless Trump Administration Move to End Restrictions on ‘No-Knock’ Warrants Will Put Innocent People in Danger

Statement from leaders of MomsRising, the online and on-the-ground organization of more than one million mothers and their families, on the Trump Justice Department’s reckless move to eliminate common-sense restrictions on so-called ‘no-knock’ warrants:

“America’s moms are deeply disturbed by the reckless decision by the Trump Justice Department to rescind the commonsense restrictions on ‘no-knock’ warrants adopted in 2021. This action is callous and shameful. It will very likely result in more innocent people being injured or killed, as Breonna Taylor was just six years ago when police officers entered her Louisville home without knocking and shot and killed her as she slept. That botched and deadly raid could very likely have been avoided if police had simply knocked before entering."

“Our country is safer and our families and communities stronger when there is trust between police and the public, but the Trump administration seems determined to destroy that trust. Its failure to rein in ICE and Border Patrol agents, and its elimination of commonsense restrictions on ‘no-knock’ warrants are putting families, communities of color, low-income communities, and people with disabilities at particular risk. The country does not want to go backward on badly needed reforms that make both law enforcement and communities safer.”
