Are you kidding me?!? Some members of the U.S. Senate just used a procedural move to BLOCK a vote on the Paycheck Fairness Act

What happened? Because of Senate rules, at least 60 senators needed to vote "yes" on a procedural motion called “cloture” in order to bring the Paycheck Fairness Act up for a vote on the Senate floor.  The Senate voted 53-44 against cloture, blocking the Paycheck Fairness Act from moving forward.

This shouldn’t have happened. There are over 50 co-sponsors of the Paycheck Fairness Act, so if there were a full Senate floor vote, the bill would pass, but opponents of equal pay used procedural motions to keep the bill from moving forward.

Momentum for equal pay is growing. Just yesterday, President Obama signed an Executive Order prohibiting federal contractors from retaliating against employees who choose to discuss their compensation. This order will help the more than 26 million people in America who work for federal contractors—over 20 percent of the entire U.S. workforce.

But then the U.S. Senate turned its back on the rest of the workforce and used a procedural method to block a full vote on equal pay leaving the rest of the U.S. workforce without these important protections.

We’ve seen deep-pocketed pin-striped lobbyists pour money against our efforts to pass the Paycheck Fairness Act. We’re not going to match them millionaire for millionaire, but we can more than match them with people.

That’s why we need to hit our goal of 1,000 donations ASAP.
