Three weeks ago, my children wrote letters to Congress asking them to keep families together as part of a campaign highlighting the consequences of our outdated immigration policies. Currently, 5.5 million U.S.-born children in mixed status homes run the risk of being separated from one or both parents.

Now there's a way for adults to participate in this action as well.

We Belong Together, the women's coalition that spearheaded the children's letter-writing campaign, just came up with a clickable e-card tool allowing adults to easily send letters of their own. I tried it and it took me less than a minute. Here's the link.

Can you back up my children and the thousands of other kids across the country who have written Congress by sending an e-card? Your signature will be added to the kids' letters in a congressional delivery in Washington, D.C. this Monday, December 9. The day's activities will include a press conference, immigrant families sharing their stories with Congress Members and their staffers, as well as a twitter storm to House Speaker John Boehner asking him to bring immigration reform to a vote.

Every day that the House fails to act on immigration reform is one more day, in which too many children face the prospect of missing parents. This has repercussions not only for those families but our country as well. Families who lose a breadwinner must turn to the safety net, and in some cases, U.S.-born children of immigrants have been placed in foster care.
