Every day the California Governor and Legislature fail to pass a budget that restores Healthy Families funding, nearly 1,000 children are denied access to health coverage.

Starting TODAY, the State’s Managed Risk Medical Insurance Board (MRMIB) will begin to deny children health coverage through the state’s Healthy Families Program. That’s because MRMIB must begin budgeting based on an estimated shortfall of $90 million due to underfunding in the Governor’s May Revise budget and cuts included in the Budget Conference Committee’s current budget package. That means, TODAY, children will begin being denied access to Healthy Families for which they are eligible. Ultimately, 570,000 children stand to lose access to critical preventive health care over the next 12 months.

Without health coverage, many kids will get sick, and some will die.

Every day of inaction, 1,000 kids lose access to health coverage. This is unacceptable. Budgeting is about priorities, and there is no greater priority than safeguarding the health and welfare of our children.

Tell the Legislature and Governor they must adopt a budget that protects kids’ health and lives and does not result in children being denied health coverage from the state’s successful Healthy Families Program!

KIDS WILL DIE: Along with many of our children's health allies, the 100% Campaign and PICO California have created a website - www.kidswilldie.com - to help fight the draconian proposals and to protect the critically important Healthy Families Program.

On behalf of The Children’s Partnership and the 100% Campaign, I'd like to thank all the MomsRising.org members in California for their steadfast work to ensure that every child has access to health coverage.
