Really, President Trump? Walking Away from Our Child Care Crisis Is Just Plain Dumb

“President Trump’s comments yesterday, that the federal government ‘can’t take care of daycare,’ are deeply and profoundly disturbing, short-sighted, and just plain dumb. Our country’s devastating child care crisis is one of the greatest challenges facing moms, families, and businesses, and an enormous drain on our economy. Walking away from it would be malpractice for any President and is especially rich from one who claims to know how to make our economy succeed.
“Trump’s comments prove he is as out-of-touch about the affordability crisis as moms across the country suspect him to be. Three-quarters of families need moms’ wages to put food on the table. Parents need access to affordable, high quality child care in order to be able to go to work, kids need quality early education to thrive, and businesses need child care so they don’t have employee disruptions. Study after study shows that child care brings big returns. The President’s comments show he has no idea what’s really going on across America.
“America’s moms recognize the pattern here: President Trump launched an incredibly costly war of choice, as well as numerous other expensive military aggressions, that are consuming the federal budget dollars Americans would prefer be used to fund child care, health care, education, food and nutrition. He and his Republican allies in Congress passed the unpopular, deceptively named One Big Beautiful Bill Act to benefit the Epstein class while shifting costs to the states, using our federal tax dollars to fund wars and human rights abuses instead of the health care and child care programs that they were intended for and that voters have long prioritized.
“Moms will fight back every day in every way. Our lives, our families, our economic security, and our health matter. This will not stand.”
