Moms Ask: Why, Governor Morrisey? Why Withhold the Clothing Vouchers Our Families Urgently Need?
Lisa Lederer, 202/371-1996
“Gov. Morrisey has created enormous stress and real panic for West Virginia moms and families by refusing to launch the clothing voucher program on schedule. Families in West Virginia are struggling mightily to put food on our tables and gas in our cars, to pay for the health care we need and the child care that allows us to work. The affordability and care crises gripping our state are affecting every aspect of our lives. During tough times like this, we are especially counting on the vouchers that for decades have helped us buy shoes and clothing, backpacks and school supplies for our kids.
“The state legislature appropriated the funds. Moms and families urgently need them. Yet, for no discernible reason, and with the start of school fast approaching, Gov. Morrisey is refusing to kick off the clothing voucher program our children need.
“At MomsRising, we’ve heard from moms in every corner of the state who need these vouchers now. Gov. Morrisey has created a completely unnecessary crisis for West Virginia families. Moms demand he end it by implementing the clothing voucher program right now.”
