Moms Say: Let Us Feed Our Families, Continue SNAP Benefits!

“Our country is facing a serious emergency because the Trump Department of Agriculture is refusing to use contingency funds to support SNAP benefits in November. That is a choice the Trump administration is making that is unjustifiable, callous, and cruel. It will cause massive hardship and hunger. If the administration makes good on its threat, more than 41 million people in this country – children, seniors, moms and families, people with disabilities, people who work hard at jobs that don’t pay them enough to feed their families – will go hungry.
“One out of every eight people in our country utilizes SNAP benefits to take care of their families, contribute to their communities, and build good lives. We are hearing every day from panicked MomsRising members who don’t know how they will feed their families next week without SNAP. If the Trump administration withholds those contingency funds, moms will miss meals so they can feed their kids. Children and seniors will eat ramen … if they eat at all.
“The health of our children and families is at stake. Our country’s food pantries do heroic work, but they cannot fill this gap – and they should not have to. The Trump administration has billions of dollars to cover SNAP benefits in November. Refusing to use them is – quite simply – appalling.
“President Trump promised to reduce the cost of food. He has failed miserably. With raids on immigrant farmworkers and new tariffs, food prices continue to skyrocket, making SNAP more important than ever. Moms make feeding our children and families a priority. The Trump administration should too. We urge the administration to release the contingency funds and continue the SNAP benefits so many of us rely on.”
