The Latino vote is expected to be critical in next Tuesday’s election on Prop 50, and MomsRising Vice President Xochitl Oseguera, who runs the organization’s Spanish-language arm, MamásConPoder, is available for comment.
With our democracy on the line, California voters will have a chance to vote on Prop 50, the Election Rigging Response Act, on November 4. It levels the playing field by authorizing temporary changes to California’s congressional district maps in response to the brazen partisan redistricting taking place in Texas, North Carolina, and other states.
A Bay Area resident and mom of two, Oseguera has been organizing Latina moms and the Latino community in California and around the country for more than 25 years. She can discuss what’s at stake for Latinos in this election and how to safely cast a ballot.
“The Latino community has been horrified by President Trump’s attacks on immigrant and Spanish-speaking communities, his complete failure to lower prices, and what his administration and Republicans in Congress are doing to take away our health care and SNAP benefits,” Oseguera said. “Now he is trying to rig upcoming elections so he can continue advancing his cruel, damaging agenda. With so much on the line, Prop 50 is our chance to fight back.”
MomsRising/MamásConPoder has endorsed Prop 50. California Governor Gavin Newsom is leading the campaign to pass it, and former President Barack Obama and California’s two U.S. Senators, Alex Padilla and Adam Schiff, are among those who have endorsed it.
