Moms Applaud U.S. Senators Who Refused More Funds for Department of Homeland Security, Urge Them to Fund Health Care, Not ICE

“America’s moms have been horrified for months as ICE and CBP have terrified communities, torn families apart, teargassed and shot peaceful protestors, racially profiled hardworking people going about their daily routines, and in other ways violated the basic human rights and constitutional protections of people in our communities. It is unforgivable that Republicans in Congress took money from the health care, food and nutrition, and education programs that families need to fund these cruel, lawless actions. It must end, and the U.S. Senate was right today to refuse additional funding for Immigration and Customs Enforcement and Customs and Border Protection. Moms want Congress to take these funds back for families, using them instead to undo the cuts to Medicaid and other health care programs that are putting lives in jeopardy.
“This week, MomsRising delivered more than 44,000 petition signatures to Congress and generated more than 3,300 calls, urging Senators to refuse more funding for ICE. We commend every Senator who today refused to fund DHS until strong accountability measures – including protections at sensitive locations such as schools, hospitals, child care programs, and places of worship – are reinstated, as these are critical to children’s safety, health, and education. We demand an immigration process that balances security and compassion — NOT cuts to health care, and certainly not violence and cruelty.”
