Moms’ Night Out for Democracy: Mt. Vernon Moms Will Gather to Write Postcards Reminding Other Moms to Vote to Lower Care Costs
Lisa Lederer, 202/371-1996
Nearly two dozen Knox County mothers and their children will gather Tuesday evening for a grassroots effort focused on mobilizing mothers who vote infrequently around issues hitting families hardest: the soaring costs of child care, health care, and everyday essentials.
Participants will record personal “Why I Vote” videos for a national voter mobilization campaign and write handwritten messages to fellow mothers about what’s motivating them to vote in November. The postcards read: “Our grandmothers voted. We won Medicare and Social Security. Our vote can make health care and child care affordable for all!”
Organized by MomsRising Together, the postcard campaign will reach mothers in competitive districts who don’t always make it to the polls. Similar gatherings are taking place nationwide this month, with MomsRising members sending over a million mom-to-mom postcards this election season.
