Have you devoted countless hours of your time at school board meetings, or talking with school officials to help make your school as good as it can be?  Do you know a mom who has fought tirelessly to protect your school from budget cuts?  Or a parent who stood up to school policy when it didn’t make sense for families?   Parenting magazine wants to hear from you today! Read on...

Help us celebrate the achievements of parents who have made a difference in the fight for better schools by nominating them to represent your state at Parenting magazine’s second annual Mom Congress on Education and Learning conference at Georgetown University in Washington, D.C., April 10-13, 2011.  Parenting will select one outstanding advocate from every state and the District of Columbia to attend the event, where they’ll join U.S. Secretary of Education Arne Duncan and other education and advocacy leaders to find solutions to the challenges facing schools today. All winners will also receive round-trip airfare, a three-night hotel stay, and the opportunity to connect with moms from across the country to share success stories, challenges, and concerns as they work to improve our nation’s schools.

To nominate yourself or another deserving parent in your community, visit www.Parenting.com/momcongress TODAY- Monday, January 31st to submit your nomination.

Driven by the ever-increasing role that parents play in advocating for positive change in the education system, Parentingmagazine launched the Mom Congress initiative in March 2009 to celebrate and connect moms fighting for better schools.  Each month, the School Years edition of Parenting gives readers the education news and resources they need to make a difference, and highlights one of 21,000+ Mom Congress members whose efforts have brought about positive change for students.

At the inaugural conference last May, 51 delegates met on the campus of Georgetown University in Washington, D.C. and worked with Parenting editors, Georgetown University School of Continuing Studies faculty and the Mom Congress advisory board – which includes MomsRising.org co-founder Kristin Rowe-Finkbeiner and leaders from the National PTA, the National Education Association, PBS, Jumpstart, the George Lucas Educational Foundation and others – to create the “Lesson Plan for Change”, a blueprint to empower parents to get more involved in their children’s education that appeared in the October 2010 issue of Parenting School Years and in the bestselling companion guide to the documentary Waiting for Superman.

Help us find the next class of Mom Congress delegates by submitting a nomination today!
