To read this blog post in English, click here .

I went back to Miami, Florida recently to visit my mom for Mother’s Day and found a bunch of my old mixed CDs from when I was 15. I decided to give one a listen and what I heard was an amazing amalgamation of Shakira, Boys to Men, Enrique Iglesias, and Savage Garden. Listening to it made me smile, because even in my early teen years, the seeming incongruence of being Latina and American defined my spaces—or as my dad always put it—being a "Café con Milk" kid. I’ve always felt the most comfortable in spaces where “Spanglish” is the norm—surrounded by people with which I can smoothly move from...

“El dia que naciste mi niña linda, nacieron todas las flores” are the first words my mom said to me this morning. It’s moments like these, in my mother’s infinite love and unconditional affection, that I remember why I’m activist. As we approach Mother’s Day, I’ve been thinking about Paula Gunn Allen’s article “Who is Your Mother? Red Roots of White Feminism“ that I read many years ago college. She addresses, among other things, the importance of tracing our own history through our mothers and their work—“your mother’s identity is the key to your own identity.” Her article resonated with me...

I’m really peeved with the media. I’m getting tired of seeing these so-called “Obamacare horror stories” when I watch TV or read the news when, in reality, over five million people have gained healthcare coverage thanks to the Affordable Care Act and many millions of people are getting financial assistance to afford healthcare coverage for the first time. Time is tight! Open enrollment for this year ends in just 12 days, on March 31st, and we’ve got to challenge the media to more accurately report the healthcare coverage options under the Affordable Care Act. Will you join me in calling for...

Last week, I had the honor of going to the We Belong Together Immigration Reform Summit in Washington, DC. The intent of this summit was to come together to plan and strategize how the We Belong Together community would organize to make immigration reform happen in 2014! From celebrating our victories to developing concrete plans for the upcoming months, each moment of the summit inspired me to continue our fight for immigration reform for the 5 million undocumented women and the 1.5 million undocumented children living in the United States . My favorite part of the summit was listening to...
