In case you missed it: MomsRising October Community Meeting

During our time together, we talked about what’s really going on with the government shutdown and how Republicans in Congress’ reckless decisions have pushed our health care system into a full-on crisis. When Republicans cut $1 trillion from health care programs this summer, they took health care from over 15 million people. Now, the Affordable Care Act’s enhanced premium tax credits—which help 24 million people afford health care—are also under threat, putting affordable health care at even greater risk. Instead of funding essential health care programs, Republican leaders in Congress have doubled down on cuts and even shut down the government out of unwillingness to negotiate.

It’s become very clear that their priority isn’t families or care, but tax breaks for millionaires and terrifying hardworking immigrants, people who are critical to our care infrastructure, our economy, and our futures! But we are not backing down. Together, we are meeting up, organizing, speaking out, and fighting for the care every family deserve.

We are very grateful to our expert guest speakers, including Neera Tanden, President and CEO, Center for American Progress (CAP), and Fatima Goss Graves, President and CEO, National Women’s Law Center (NWLC), for our October Community Zoom Meeting!

If you missed the meeting or would like to review any part of the program, no problem! You can find it on our YouTube channel. (Please feel free to share it with anyone you think might find this helpful!) The recording is also available on Zoom, Passcode: j5cG=$Ie (To listen to it in Spanish, just click the word icon and select Spanish.).

QUICK LIST: Read and share helpful shutdown resources

We moms shouldn’t have to hold the nation together on empty.

Yet here we are in the middle of a government shutdown that has thrown families into chaos. SNAP benefits are being cut; air traffic controllers, military school teachers, families in several states are losing child care as Head Start centers start to close; and other federal employees are facing another missed paycheck (while still showing up every day, keeping our country running!). WIC is barely hanging on by thread, and rising costs are pushing families past the brink.

We’re holding our communities and workplaces together, and once again, we're holding the nation together, while the resources families need are stalled because Republican leaders in Washington, DC won’t come to the negotiating table! We have some resources to share with you and that YOU can share with others.

Check out the list of resources.

  • How rising ACA costs impact families and communities; and
  • What local elected officials (city, county, and school board members) can do to help, along with ways our members can take action
  • followed by a panel Q&A!

These gatherings are about more than just updates—they’re about building power, community, and hope. Because when we come together, we are powerful.

Let’s rise together—RSVP now to join us! You can even sign up for multiple months at a time by checking multiple dates.
