Medicaid—a healthcare program that is a lifeline for over 72 million people in the U.S—is under attack by Republicans in Congress. The $860 billion in Medicaid cuts currently under consideration also threaten to deeply impact the families of active-duty service members and veterans who rely on it for essential care.

Quick signature: Help us make it loud and clear for Congress: Medicaid is essential for all families, including military families!

Let’s break down why this is so important.

Military families are covered by TRICARE, the health insurance program for U.S. military service members, veterans, and their families. But many also rely on Medicaid to access essential services TRICARE doesn’t fully cover. For military families who move frequently, face significant out-of-pocket costs, or may need additional specialized therapies or respite care, Medicaid plays a vital role in providing active-duty service members and veterans with the care they need while protecting them from medical debt.

Moreover, Medicaid provides healthcare access to more than 72 million Americans, including children, families, seniors, new parents, people with disabilities, and low-income people across the country.

Your voice is needed. Tell Congress to support families, including military families, by protecting Medicaid!

Importantly, Medicaid is essential for military children. In fact, 1 in 10 children of military families use Medicaid. Many families, including those connected to the military, rely on Medicaid to cover essential services for kids with special or mental health needs and covers critical services that TRICARE doesn’t cover.

The impacts of Medicaid cuts on military families and veterans are far-reaching and urgent: 1 in 9 women veterans use Medicaid for health coverage, including over 1 in 5 women veterans with disabilities, 1 in 7 rural women veterans, and 12.4% of women veteran moms (that’s over 54,000 moms in America!). Now is the time to take action. A few weeks ago, U.S. House Republicans passed Trump’s draconian budget bill that blatantly prioritizes tax breaks for billionaires over essential support for families. Among cuts to food assistance and child care, the bill also included over $860 billion in cuts to Medicaid—the biggest cut to the program in history. These aren’t just numbers on a page: 16 million Americans stand to lose their health care coverage as a result of this harmful bill, and it will lead to over 51,000 preventable deaths annually.

It’s now up to the U.S. Senate to review this budget. And it’s up to us to keep the pressure on! Some Republican Senators have already signaled their concerns with the Medicaid cuts included in the bill. That’s where YOU come in. Together we can raise the stakes for members of Congress, let them know that we’re watching, and make clear we won’t stand by idly while they decimate programs that are essential to millions of American families, including veterans, active-duty military service members, and their children.

You'll sign on to our petition that reads

Congress must reject Republicans' plans to cut a devastating $860 billion from Medicaid—a program that is essential for America’s families, including American veterans, active-duty military service members, and their families.
