Send a QUICK Letter to the Editor to tell Congress: Invest in Care, Not Cruelty
Send a letter to the editor to your local paper. It’s one of the most powerful ways to catch the attention of your elected officials. Plus - it’s easy and only takes a few minutes!
What’s happening? When ICE agents tore a beloved Chicago child care teacher and mother of two from her center, fear spread among the youngest learners she cared for. Children and families were left confused and heartbroken. As parents and community members, it’s horrifying to imagine this happening to the caregivers we trust every day.
This is not an isolated event! While President Trump and Republicans in Congress push cuts to healthcare and public education, they are funneling billions in taxpayer funds to expand enforcement that separates families and terrorizes immigrant caregivers - people who are essential to our care workforce and economy.
When a caregiver is taken from her workplace, the harm ripples outward. Parents lose reliable child care. Children lose trusted educators. Businesses lose employees. Fear and instability undermine early learning and weaken family well-being. Every child’s sense of safety is at stake when our communities operate in fear.
*We know that lawmakers read their local newspapers to see what is on the minds of the people in their districts, that’s why it’s critical for you to take action now and submit a letter to the editor to care for our caregivers and fund compassion and not fear!

The pre-drafted letter (which you can edit and add your own thoughts and story to when you click the link) simply says:
Across the country, families are living with fear and uncertainty as cruel immigration policies terrify the very caregivers who hold our communities together. From child care providers to home health aides, immigrant caregivers play an essential role in caring for our children, supporting our elders, and strengthening our economy. Yet instead of investing in care and stability, Republican members of Congress are cutting healthcare, nutrition, and child care programs while funneling billions of our taxpayer dollars to fund separating families and terrorizing immigrant caregivers.
Caregivers make it possible for parents to work, for children to learn and grow, and for older adults to live with dignity. When trusted workers are torn from their jobs and families, the ripple effects are devastating. Children lose beloved teachers, patients lose consistent care, and families lose the stability that keeps them afloat.
Our nation needs a safe and orderly immigration process that balances compassion and security, and ensures that our immigrant caregivers are treated with dignity and respect – NOT cuts to programs that provide the tools and opportunities families need to build good lives, and NOT cruelty.
