Congressional warnings, football and healthcare...what?!

Unbelievable but true: last week, we learned that Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell sent letters to six professional sports leagues—including the National Football League (NFL)—warning them NOT to help share news about new health insurance options available to low- and moderate-income families starting in October.

This gives new meaning to "personal foul!"

Sadly, the attempt to scare the NFL worked. Shortly after the league received the letter from Senator McConnell, an NFL spokesman said, "We have responded to the letters we received from members of Congress to inform them we currently have no plans to engage in this area."

Well, it looks like regular folks like us will have to get the word out about new health coverage options.

Help us get the word out—join MomsRising’s Wellness Wonder Team to share the good news about new health coverage options in your community:  http://www.momsrising.org/wellnesswonder

How does this work? When you sign on via the link above, you'll be among the first to hear about new, affordable healthcare options and opportunities. And if you plan to tell just 10 people about the new healthcare options and opportunities in the coming months, we'll make you part of our MomsRising Wellness Wonder Team!

We'll even send you a FREE magnet for your fridge that says, "Changing More Than Diapers" when you sign on to the Wellness Wonder Team via the above link.

We may not be Twitter powerhouses like Kim Kardashian, but between us all, we know many of the 42 million people who need coverage or can barely afford the coverage they have now. They'll be excited to get information from you about what the new changes in health coverage might mean for them.

Why moms? As moms and caregivers, we are in a special position to help the people we love get covered. The conversations we have with our friends, family, and neighbors will make the difference in whether or not our loved ones sign up for coverage. Over the next few months, we’ll be sending Wellness Wonder Team members helpful information about the upcoming changes, providing resources on talking about Obamacare, and even offering swag and prizes to those who tell the most people!

Frankly, Senator McConnell's effort to keep the NFL and other sports teams away from sharing news about health insurance reeks of sabotage. This supposed outrage that the Obama administration would be partnering with sports teams is totally hypocritical. In fact, big-time sports personalities have recently worked with Republican administrations to help get the word out about new public health programs, like Medicare Part D and health reform in Massachusetts.

To be blunt: Since the 30+ attempts made by conservatives in Congress to repeal Obamacare were unsuccessful, some members of Congress are now stooping to a new low—trying to keep information about new coverage options away from those who need affordable care and from the uninsured.

We call, "Foul!"

Let's fight this cynical attempt to sabotage Obamacare (and get a free magnet too!): http://www.momsrising.org/wellnesswonder
