Unbelievable! Clean air standards are under attack, again. A corporate-lobbyist backed amendment to the 2012 Federal Transportation bill would allow boilers to keep dumping toxic pollution into our air.  Boilers are the second largest source of mercury air pollution in the nation.

This amendment is expected to be voted on in the U.S. Senate within the next few days.[1]

If this horrible amendment passes, it would block clean air standards and expose our children to more mercury pollution.

Not on our watch!

Standards to clean up toxic pollution from industrial boilers are long overdue, now is not the time to turn back the clock. Yet right now corporate lobbyists and some members of Congress are trying to do just that.

*Tell your U.S. Senators to vote "No" on anti-clean-air amendments to the 2012 Federal Transportation bill, and urge them to stand up for the clean air that growing lungs need!

What's the lowdown?

Last week, Senator Collins filed an amendment (SA 1660) to the 2012 Federal Transportation bill (S. 1813) to rollback clean air standards to clean up toxic pollution from coal-burning boilers, which function as industrial power plants.[2] These units burn coal and are the second largest source of mercury in the country.

This dirty air rider would eliminate toxic air pollution standards for industrial boilers, and would allow polluters to continue to burn coal and spew mercury and lead into our air.  Senator Collins’ amendment will result in up to 28,350 premature deaths, over 17,000 heart attacks, and more than 180,000 cases of asthma attacks.[3]

*Don't forget to take a moment now to urge your U.S. Senators to vote "No" on anti-clean-air amendments to the 2012 Federal Transportation bill in order to protect the clean air that growing lungs need.

And please also help us spread the word about the attacks on important clean air standards by using the Facebook share button below. Thank you!

We'd all breathe a bit easier if we can prevent mercury and lead from spewing into our air.

Together we are a powerful voice for children and families.
