At noon today, (Mexican Mother's Day) members of the UNITE HERE will converge on the LAX Hilton to ask that hotels give housekeepers (most of whom are moms) a break.

A new national study finds extremely high injury rates among hotel housekeepers across the country. Housekeepers – among the lowest-paid of hotel workers – have an injury rate 86% higher than other hotel workers. A survey of 660 housekeepers found that over 90% report pain. The evidence strongly implicates increasingly excessive workloads in the rising rates of musculoskeletal disorders among hotel housekeepers.
Today there will be a delegation of hotel workers' children asking the Hilton's management to give their moms a break, massages will be provided for housekeeping staff, and religious leaders and MomsRising.org will bring Mother's Day cards. UNITE HERE's campaign to improve conditions in hotels has a great name - Hotel Workers Rising! Find out more at www.hotelworkersrising.org.
