Wow. We’ve gotten A LOT of good feedback that our new program of #5Actions a week coming to you on Mondays is helpful. THANK YOU!

Here are the #5Actions for this week with an important note: You are making a difference! We’ve seen President Trump and many in Congress walk back threats to immediately repeal the Affordable Care Act (ACA) and with it the healthcare coverage of nearly 30 million people. In fact, Trump thought he’d have a quick slam dunk on repealing the ACA and on getting his Cabinet appointed, but instead he's facing massive opposition on every front. And that’s all because people like YOU have been raising your voices. Thank you.

It’s a marathon and not a sprint though. Our voices are still needed. So let’s #KeepMarching! And we at MomsRising are here for you on this march!  Without further ado, here are the #5Actions for this week. You can take one action a day, or all on the same day; you can take action any time of day or night, your choice! (Feel free to share this list on Facebook and social media too. Your friends will thank you. We are getting lots of requests for action lists!).

Here are our Top 5 actions for this week:

1- Tell the U.S. Senate vote “ NO” on Andrew Puzder for the U.S. Secretary of the Department of Labor - Take 30 seconds now and call 1.855.440.1800. It’s easy and will have a big impact. When you dial the number, you’ll be connected directly to the office of a key U.S. Senator. Tell them to vote “NO” on Andrew Puzder.  Call soon because they’re deliberating now.

ACTION: 1.855.440.1800 to tell key U.S. Senators #JustSayNOonPuzder!

Background: Andy Pudzer opposes paid sick days, overtime pay, breaks for workers, and more. In short, he’s not qualified to serve in a position that protects workers.  The U.S. Senate must oppose Puzder to lead the U.S. Department of Labor. Call your U.S. Senator now at 1.855.440.1800.  We’ll walk you through every step of the way.

2- Urge Congress to Protect the WIC Program! - The Special Supplemental Nutrition Program for Women, Infants & Children — WIC — allows 8 million supermoms and kids to have access to healthy foods, breastfeeding support, nutrition counseling and community referrals each month. Now WIC needs our help! WIC, like many other programs that serve vulnerable populations, is often at risk from harmful federal funding cuts that would impact millions of families. We can’t let that happen.

ACTION:  Sign on our letter to Congress urging them to protect the WIC program: http://action.momsrising.org/sign/WIC_signatures/

Background: WIC has been shown  to improve health outcomes in babies, including improving birth weights and reducing infant mortality rates, as well as stronger outcomes for moms in managing weight gain in pregnancy, prolonging breastfeeding duration, and helping moms access breastfeeding support and pumping support as they return to work or school. WIC is also hugely cost effective and strengthens both local and our national economy.  A giant cost-savings measure - WIC’s infant formula manufacturers rebate program - generates $2 billion per year of non-taxpayer funds which lifts approximately 1 in 4 WIC participants! WIC is truly a win-win for families, our economy, and our nation!

3- Tell Congress #NoBanNoWall! - Send a mini Statue of Liberty and a strong message to Congress, President Trump, and the media that the Muslim Ban and the wall are NOT okay.

ACTION: Send a mini Statue of Liberty to Trump Tower - http://action.momsrising.org/sign/Immigration_Ban/

Background: In response to President Trump advancing immigration actions that harm families, destroy communities, hurt our economy and national security, and are putting our nation on the verge of a U.S. Constitutional crisis, MomsRising is sending to Trump Tower thousands of mini Statue of Liberties, along with messages from people across the nation about the importance of liberty & justice for ALL (and we do mean ALL!). Click above to join us in making a splash that can’t be ignored by the media, Congress, or President Trump.

4- Urge Police AccountabilityUrge the NYC Mayor and NYPD to fire Richard Haste and all the officers responsible for Ramarley Graham’s killing by police without any further delay.

ACTION: Tell New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio and Commissioner O’Neill that five years is too long to wait for accountability and justice:  http://action.momsrising.org/sign/Ramarley-Graham-Petition/

Background: In 2012, Ramarley Graham was only 18 years old, innocent, and unarmed when NYPD officers broke into the locked door of his family’s home, killing him in front of his loved ones. Since then, there has been no justice for his death.

5- Protect Healthcare - The coverage of nearly 30 million people is at risk. Send a Letter to the Editor of your local newspaper to speak out for quality, affordable healthcare via this easy link! (It’s truly easy. When you click, sample language and direct links to papers right there. Dozens of Letters to the Editor from MomsRising members have already been printed across the nation and are making a big impact. Let’s keep the MOMentum going!)
