Great news! Congressman Don Davis has confirmed that he will support the discharge petition [1] for the American Dream and Promise Act. This is a massive win for moms, dads, caregivers, and workers across the state.
What’s happening? As out-of-control, harmful, and chaotic immigration enforcement continues to threaten family stability and create fear in communities across the country, congressional action to protect immigrant families is more urgent than ever. Our nation needs a safe and orderly immigration process that balances compassion and security, not cruelty.
The American Dream and Promise Act would provide Dreamers and Temporary Protected Status (TPS) recipients with a pathway to permanent legal status, helping protect them from deportation and family separation. To bring the Dream and Promise Act to the House floor for a vote, the discharge petition must receive 218 signatures from House members. Congressman Davis’s commitment to sign the petition brings us one step closer to reaching this critical threshold.
Dreamers and TPS recipients are nurses, nursing assistants, child care providers, home health aides, teachers, entrepreneurs, neighbors, parents, and family members. They are an essential part of the workforce,the communities we all rely on, and the families we love.
When long-term workers and caregivers are forced out of their jobs and communities, the consequences ripple far beyond their individual families. Losing trusted caregivers can deepen workforce shortages, disrupt care for children, older adults, people with disabilities, and patients, weaken local economies, and drive up costs for families across the country.
