Happy Birthday Head Start! May 18th marked the 60th anniversary of the groundbreaking Head Start program, which has provided opportunity and care to more than 38 MILLION children and their families over the last six decades!
From 1965 until today, Head Start has proven itself to be the most important social and educational program for kids, families, and communities our nation has ever had. We are grateful for everything Head Start has done for our nation’s families, making it possible for over half a million parents to work, go to school, or get job training so far this year and cultivating positive learning environments that support the emotional well-being and development of our nation’s littlest learners.
“Allenton Head Start has been amazing with my two-year-old. It's fun, it's learning, it's interactive!! He has learned so much in just a short time. He literally runs into the building each morning waiting to meet his teachers and classmates. Not to mention this has helped me as a parent and still be able to have a working income all while feeling good that my child is in a safe, fun, and loving environment.” - Shronda, NC
Our West Virginia Campaign Director Amy Jo shares her powerful story, uplifting how Head Start provided a much-needed lifeline for her and her young family. This program enables moms like Amy Jo to work, allows child care workers to stay in their professions, and supports the financial sustainability of families and our economy.
