Today is National Latino AIDS Awareness Day. In order to bring awareness to this day, yesterday's chat was dedicated to it.

The #OneConversation chat happening on social media was created to ignite discussion around barriers and stigma that keep Latinos from talking openly about HIV and AIDS with their families, friends, or partners.

Although representing 17% of the total US population, Latinos account for 21% of the 1.2 million people living with HIV in the United States and 23% of people in the United States and dependent territories who get an HIV diagnosis each year. The first step to stopping HIV in the Latino community is talking about it. Research indicates that talking openly about HIV can be a simple but powerful way to eliminate some of the stigma, negative stereotypes, and shame that are too often associated with HIV within some segments of our community and which prevent many from talking, getting tested, disclosing their HIV status, and seeking treatment.

We hope you cull through this recap for important information and join the conversation today using #OneConversation and #NLAAD.
