Did you know that much of our information about chemical hazards comes from animal tests, the results of which are hard to extrapolate to humans? The Kid Safe Chemicals Act should also reform toxicity testing itself along the lines of what the National Academy of Sciences recommended in its 2007 report: Toxicity Testing in the 21st Century: A Vision and Strategy. This would mean faster and more reliable--and human-relevant--tests, and safer chemicals. It should also use chemical groupings, computer models, and alternatives to animals so that as many chemicals can be assessed as humanely as possible as quickly as possible. Thank you for this post.
