I know what dumpster diving is all about and for me and my brothers and sisters it was like hitting the jackpot for food. My mother was very frugal raising all NINE of us as a Homemaker. I remember her going to Safeway looking for the marked down milk and other groceries. She did that in the military stores as well. She bought eggs for the sisters of the sacred heart so we could get a free tray. I know what going without is all about and I think to the time when Jesus walked the earth and everything was simple. Nothing was overbearing overtrodden and relationships were stable.
I still wished we lived in barter times where people traded things instead of using money. I'll trade you an onion for a potato or carrot. No one would look down on you as if you were nothing.
Now I had a taste of the welfare system myself being a Mom of three beautiful girls. We were looking for temporary help so that I could stay at home and raise my children. You know what she told me when your baby reaches 6 months so you can find a job. I said look lady I didn't pay taxes to pay your salary for nothing. Why can't I stay at home and raise my children. Why do I have to get a job to pay someone else to watch and raise my child. That doesn't make any sense to me at all. It's sad to say that it's all about the might dollar which is worth crap and is just a piece of paper. History reveals that US went bankrupt in 1930's and looked to Puerto Rico to bail us out that's why the IRS is not a government agency because of history. This country has no regard for traditional family values and morals its going down the drain. We gotta rise up and if it's the mom's that has to save this country so be it. Thank you for your story I feel ya been there too. I know what it's like to be shunned by society.

...you certainly can WRITE; )

I agree with you wholeheartedly, that democracy is an action. We have so many choices to make every day and there is weight behind every one of them.

I don't consider myself a post-feminist woman, not until we make equal money, are free to raise our babies ourselves, and are safe from men's violence.

Oh, and hi from across the water in Bremerton.
I'm not anonymous, like the tag above says - I'm Lynne from electric-cars-are-for-girls.com.

Regards,
Lynne
