This week’s #5Actions includes several critically important actions for you to take where your voice is urgently needed – and closes with a recap of the powerful State of the Union, when so many of our top policy priorities were lifted in President Biden’s remarks. Our top policies were highlighted in the State of the Union in no small part because YOU (and we) have been persistently insisting that key policies like childcare, paid family/medical leave, eldercare, fair pay stay in the spotlight and get addressed. Thank you. Take a look below for quick ways to leverage your voice to help...

Washington made history in 2021 when the legislature passed and funded the Working Families Tax Credit , a first-of-its-kind policy for the state that will put millions of dollars back into the pockets of families. Eligible households can receive up to $1,200 per year starting February 2023. We know this is just the start of our mission to make sure every Washingtonian can put food on the table, pay for emergencies, and go to sleep with peace of mind. That is why we are championing House Bill 1075/Senate Bill 5249 - a bill that would expand the Working Families Tax Credit to low-income,...

On October 25th, 2022, parents across the country joined MomsRising and partners for a virtual teach-in on truth over fear and to learn ways to advocate for safe, honest, and inclusive education as the foundation of a just democracy. The event featured keynotes from Professor Kimberlé Crenshaw and Ibram X. Kendi, parent stories, and ways to take action! Click to watch! Education is the cornerstone of multiracial democracy and schools are where we learn to engage in society in meaningful ways. Still, parents, students, and educators across the country are experiencing a climate where far-right...

One year ago today (December 15th, 2021), the last expanded monthly Child Tax Credit payments went out. These checks were a huge relief for families to help pay for necessities like medical bills, rent, food, childcare, and more. MomsRising members across the country raised their voices in response! Last Wednesday, we had an incredible Child Tax Credit Day of Action. We held a National Call-In Day for the CTC: text CTCNow to 747464 to connect with your U.S. Senator’s office and demand they extend the expanded Child Tax Credit in any end-of-the-year tax package! We are only a few weeks away from the end of the year, but there is still more work to be done in Congress this year. American families need Congress to be focused on the priorities that matter and this week’s 5Actions have several things to do to remind Congress about what’s important. Your voice matters. -- Sue Anne, Kristin, Nate, Lauren, Elyssa, Gina, Tasmiha, Felicia, and the rest of the MomsRising.org & MamásConPoder Team Call your Senators now to save the extended Child Tax Credit! MomsRising-Together-Logo-9.png December 12, 2022 Dear Member of Congress, On behalf of our over one million MomsRising members around the country, we want to thank you for passing impactful legislation to lift up our nation this Congress, including the Inflation Reduction Act, the Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act, The Bipartisan Safer Communities Act, and the American Rescue Plan. We also applaud the recent bipartisan passage of the Respect for Marriage Act – our families are more equal and secure because of the passage of this landmark legislation. Still, Congress has quite a bit of...

Tell U.S. Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer that we need a Senate vote NOW on banning assault weapons and high-capacity magazines! The University of Virginia. Club Q in Colorado Springs. The Walmart in Chesapeake, Virginia. That’s three horrific and heart-breaking mass shootings, one after the other in the space of days. We’re heartened that President Biden has said he was “going to try to get rid of assault weapons” during the upcoming lame-duck session, because military-style semi-automatic assault rifles are the weapons of choice of the worst mass murderers, and there’s no good reason...

I was a homeless preteen for an amount of time that trauma won’t allow me to properly timestamp. For years I blamed my mother for her “bad decisions.” I had a hard time not examining myself as a spawn of irresponsibility. But, life experience has allowed me to reclassify this memory. My mother was not irresponsible. She was a vulnerable product of a failed system that sent her on a spiral of many more policy injustices. And this is how we found ourselves sharing a motel room, waiting out a lease term following an eviction caused by too many nights of domestic violence. Mommy never wanted to...
