Joining a coalition of partner organizations working to facilitate implementation of the Affordable Care Act (ACA), MomsRising.org today announced its “Wellness Wonder Team” of moms, dads and other concerned community members who will be informing family, friends and the general public about new affordable health care options and opportunities under the new health care law. Wellness Wonder Team members will let people know about new preventive care and consumer protection opportunities, and also educate people about how they can sign up for new health care coverage under the ACA.
Beginning October 1, for the first time ever, thanks to the new health care law, millions of uninsured Americans will be able to shop for an affordable health insurance plan that covers everything from doctor and hospital visits, to maternity care and prescriptions.
Too many people still do not know about their health insurance options. A recent poll by Kaiser Family Foundation found that four in ten Americans are unaware that the Affordable Care Act still stands. A survey for Enroll America found that nearly 80 percent of eligible Americans don’t know about the new health insurance options. That is why MomsRising.org, the online and on-the-ground grassroots organization for moms and anyone who has a mom, is getting involved.
MomsRising.org is reaching out to its more than one million members to encourage them to help spread the word about affordable health care options. Members who join the MomsRising.org Wellness Wonder Team effort will help spread the word to at least ten people.
“Moms are the primary decision makers about their families’ health care,” said Kristin Rowe-Finkbeiner, Executive Director & CEO of MomsRising.org. “They also play a crucial role in sharing information with other moms and in their communities. For many people, the idea of wading through the complexities of health care options can be daunting. So, conversations they have with friends, family, and neighbors may make the difference in whether or not friends and family get covered. Our goal for the MomsRising.org ‘Wellness Wonder Team,’ is to raise awareness and share information about health care coverage with moms across the country, so that they and others in their communities can take advantage of this opportunity to access quality, affordable health care for themselves and their families.”
In addition to providing information about where people can get help signing up for coverage, Wellness Wonder Team volunteers will help steer people to resources where they can find out whether they qualify for financial assistance.
Earlier this year, MomsRising.org collected stories from moms and dads across the country about how the Affordable Care Act has already made a difference in their lives and compiled them in a book.
