The Food Revolution is celebrating today following the news that yesterday the LAUSD Board voted to approve a new milk contract, paving the way for no flavored milk next fall.

Jamie appeared with Superintendent John Deasy on the Jimmy Kimmel show last month, where Deasy first announced that he planned to remove sugary milk from all schools within the LAUSD school district and we are delighted that Deasy has followed through with this plan!

This a great result for the Food Revolution on the back of our ongoing Sugary Milk Campaign and our first ‘Milk Day Of Action’ which took place on Thursday June 9th.  During the Milk Day Of Action, a grassroots event which engaged students and parents across the country, over 300 Food Revolutionaries staged assemblies, wrote letters to school officials, hung student-made posters marketing the benefits of unflavored milk and even donned white milk mustaches in support for only plain, white, wholesome milk to be served in schools!

The day was a great success with people across the country staging their own Revolutions, educating students and parents on the benefits of plain milk and some teams even distributed white MOO wristbands to show their support!

You can read more about the Milk Day of Action and some of the highlights here.

With more than 40 school districts nationwide having already started the process to remove flavored milk, adding Los Angeles to the list will set an exciting precedent for other large districts to follow.

If you haven’t already, then sign our Sugary Milk Campaign and join us in asking for only plain, white, wholesome milk to be served in schools.

As Jamie says: “ With flavored milk, kids are getting loads of sugar and other food additives they simply don’t need to grow and learn. In the Food Revolution the little battles set us up for the next win. All these little battles count; they matter. It’s not just milk. It’s caring about what we feed kids 180 days a year.”
