MomsRising is an online and on-the-ground multicultural organization of more than a million people who are working to increase family economic security, to end discrimination against women and mothers, and to build a nation where both businesses and families can thrive.
To that end, MomsRising is working to advance family economic security policies like paid family leave, flexible work options, affordable child care, and for an end to the wage and hiring discrimination which penalizes so many mothers. MomsRising also advocates for health care for all, sick days, toxic-free environments, and breastfeeding rights so that all children can have a healthy start.
Established in 2006, MomsRising and its members are organizing and speaking out to improve public policy and to change the national dialogue on issues that are critically important to America’s families. Together we are:
- Organizing grassroots activists who are ready to make change;
- Speaking out & educating leaders about what women, mothers, and families are facing in order to help them make the best, most informed decisions;
- Gathering and sharing stories from women across the country to help the media and leaders understand how public policy is really effecting families.
MomsRising listens to our members and takes action where we can have the most impact, including on the following core MOTHERS WIN! issues that form the foundation of our grassroots movement:.
M Maternity & Paternity Leave: Provide paid family leave after a new child comes into the family.
O Open Flexible Work: Advance workplace practices and career options that allow both businesses and families to thrive: workplace flexibility, telework, non-linear career paths, and more.
T Toxins-Free Environments: Chemicals must be proven to be safe before they are out on the market and in the products our kids use every day and air we breathe should be healthy.
H Health Care for All: Everyone in our nation must have quality health care.
E Early Care & Education: Quality, affordable early care and education should be available to all parents who need it. Child care providers should be paid at least a living wage and healthcare benefits.
R Realistic & Fair Wages: Working parents should be able to earn enough to adequately care for their family. In addition, working mothers must receive equal pay for equal work.
S Sick Days, Paid: All people should have access to earned paid sick days.
