We can change how work is done, make paid sick days available, and take longer paid maternity and paternity leaves when our children are born or adopted. We can expand the rules for unemployment insurance so women actually receive it. Part-time workers could find jobs with health insurance and retirement savings plans attached. Our children could be, if we chose, enrolled in fabulous pre-school programs that were easily affordable for as much or as little of the day as we wished. Experts, academics, congressional staff, and policy makers know about these policy proposals as they receive more attention in wider circles.
