Go Washington!

Breaking news: A Family Leave Insurance bill just passed the Washington State Senate, and now is moving to the State House. MomsRising members in WA are calling their 2 State Representatives and posting what they learn about how their elected officials plan to vote here. The more YES votes we count, the more MOMentum we'll generate to pass this bill. *Ready to post what you've heard in Washington? Email reply:
As long as this legislation continues to cover all families,
I look forward to supporting it in the House of Representatives. The
Senate recently passed a version of this legislation that continues to
cover all families, and now it comes to the House for our consideration.

Rep. Mary Helen Roberts voting YES

"Thank you for your email concerning SB 5659, relating to family leave
insurance. I am looking forward to voting for this bill if it reaches
the floor of the House for action.

I appreciate you taking the time to share you view with me on this
important issue.

Sincerely,

Mary Helen Roberts"

Larry Springer says probable yes!

Thanks for the email. SB 5659 was approved by the Senate after several
amendments were adopted. I have not reviewed the amended bill as yet
but will study it carefully when it comes to the House floor for a vote.

I have spoken with the founder of Momsrising.org regarding the bill and
am inclined to support it. That being said, I will await making a final
decision until I have the opportunity to discuss the bill with my
colleagues.

As the owner of a small retail store, I am always concerned about
legislation's affect on small businesses and always weigh both sides of
issues carefully before making a decision. However, there appears to be
minimal impact on employers which is encouraging.
