Statement of Kristin Rowe-Finkbeiner, Executive Director and CEO of MomsRising, the online and on-the-ground organization of more than one million mothers and their families, on the U.S. Treasury Department announcement this morning that it plans a mobile-friendly, multilingual sign-up tool for families that don’t file taxes to sign up for the expanded Child Tax Credit.

Moms Laud Move to Make It Easier for Spanish-Speaking and Other Families That Don’t Normally File Taxes to Sign Up for Expanded Child Tax Credit

“After just one month, it is very clear that the expanded Child Tax Credit is one of the most transformational public policy advances our country has seen in decades. Tens of millions of families are better off because they can put food on the table and gas in their cars, pay the rent or mortgage, help cover the costs of childcare so parents can work, buy clothing and school supplies for their kids, and pay off student loans and other debt thanks to the expanded Child Tax Credit. It’s boosting the economy, helping to lift businesses, and benefiting families. It is the right policy at the right time, as America’s moms and families continue to struggle through the pandemic. Now, with the U.S. Treasury announcement today, a terrific policy gets even better.

“Moms are thrilled that the Biden-Harris administration is creating a permanent, multilingual, mobile-friendly sign-up tool to help more people who do not regularly file taxes sign up for the expanded Child Tax Credit. The families of roughly 61 million children are getting the second monthly payment, going out today. That is 1.6 million more than received the first payment last month. The innovations the U.S. Treasury Department announced today promise to increase that number even more which will benefit our entire nation.
