I had 2 preemie babies. My first one was born in 1988. Ryan was born at 27 weeks and weighed 2 pounds 2 ounces. We struggled as he fought for his life. He is now 23 years old and has lived a healthy life so far. I pray nothing shows up later in life.

My second preemie is Jesse. We were on vacation visiting my husband’s family in Hawaii. I was 23 weeks pregnant when we flew there and a few days before we were supposed to fly home my water broke. I was airlifted from Maui to Honolulu where I stayed for 2 weeks before a bad infection set in and they delivered him by emergency C section just like Ryan. He was born at 26 weeks and weighed 1 pound 9.9 ounces. We were in Hawaii for 7 and a half months before we could bring him home. He was on oxygen but soon was able to go without and breathe on his own. He is now 8 years old and very healthy.

While I did have medical insurance I cannot imagine how anyone would be able to give their child the medical care they need if they had no way to pay. Medicaid and other government programs have saved so many lives... young and old. Nobody should ever have to decide to get on not to get medical attention because they cannot pay the bill. Everyone deserves healthcare! It should not be the government's decision!
