Shame, shame, shame

It's a shame that politicians and politics want to deny U.S. citizens the right to affordable health care and not make it manditory for all employers to offer such a benefit. As a school nurse in New Orleans, every day I see students who's parents either don't have insurance (Medicaid or otherwise) and cant take off work to see that their children receive the necessary health care services such as dental, vision, immunizations and other illnesses. They rely on the school nurse to solve ALL their child's health issues and it's impossible for us to do that, we simply don't have the resources available nor is it in our scope of practice to do so. When we idendify a health issue, we make referrals. However, most parents don't comply. Politicians: Mandate that employers provide affordable healthcare insurance and that parents be allowed necessary time off to bring their children to see the doctor.
