My sister has been a single mom of 4 since 1986 when her husband walked out on their family. She always worked multiple jobs, but never in a field where she could afford insurance for herself or her children. For years she played roulette with their health and hoped for the best, but when CHIP was put into place her kids FINALLY got the insurance they needed. While she still does not have health insurance for herself, her children are now happy, successful adults who are making their own way in the world. Thank goodness she was able to keep them insured and healthy and not think twice about taking them to the doctors when they were sick, despite the many challenges and obstacles she faced as a single mom.
