Food Lion Pays Better than Childcare Work

We left the first childcare center we enrolled our son in because the quality of the care was so poor. The last straw was when I found my son yelling at his toys to "be quiet and go to sleep." When I asked him who talked like that, he told me "Miss Angela," the teacher in charge of nap time. State regulations allow a higher provider/child ration during nap time, but Miss Angela could not handle the higher number of children.

A few months after we left that particular childcare center, we ran into one of our son's former teachers at the Food Lion grocery store. She was working at the check-out counter, and explained that Food Lion paid better than the childcare center.

We now know what to look for in childcare -- professionally trained workers who receive continuing education and decent pay. Of course, we cannot afford childcare like that, so I am now a stay at home mom.
