Jim and Cheryl

Jim and Cheryl are a mentally ill couple who have struggled with homelessness and the effects of their illness most of their lives. They have been in institutions and jail and finally they have been able to settle in a housing situation that has stabilized their lives for the benefit of all of society. The only way they have been able to maintain this living situation has been with the assistance of Medicaid. Without this benefit they would not be able to maintain their live sustaining medications and would be at risk of death or incarceration. Unless we want to become a society that does not care about the most vulnerable among us, we need to take a hard look at our values and how we allocate our resources. There but for the grace of God go we all.
