Giving up is not an option for me.

Right now I am so grateful to have Medicaid available to me. I am able to get some medical tests and treatments that are necessary to help me heal so that I may one day return to work. Medicaid is needed and used because I have no other options. You see, until last year I was working full time, occasionally 2 jobs, to care for my family with my spouse who lost employment and has been looking for work to no avail for quite some time now. Because of a certain pre-existing condition I was unable to get health insurance despite the fact that my job was willing to help me pay for it (They were a small business with not enough employees to qualify for group coverage.) I paid for my prescriptions out of pocket because I had to. Our combined income was just not enough to be able to get other tests done that might have uncovered or prevented the damage that my condition caused. We made too much money to qualify for any other support. I suffered through multiple strokes during this time that were severe enough to now limit my working abilities. I am unable to return to the type of work I did before and look at Medicaid as short term assistance in a long term goal, hopeful that this situation I am now living with will improve.
