Education is supported in community.

I am a grandmother, educated in the 50's & 60's when education was prized: college was almost free to students; most young children had mothers at home; and most average adults had a better knowledge of civics, US history, and liturature than many college graduates do today.

In the 70's, I was a single mother who worked to support my daughter; received food stamps and wellfare. I paid for childcare and in the evening read to my daughter, played learning games, and talked about real life. We did not have a TV most of her first 10 years. I am thankful for PBS.

From '97 to 2007 I did administration for a non-profit childcare agency, as I believe instilling a love for education is an essential part of having a literate society in the 21st century.
