Campaign Recap:
MomsRising.org supporters in California know that all workers should have the right to recover from illness without endangering public health. This is why supporters in California have sent over 12,000 letters to their legislators. A highlight of the campaign was the Orange-o-Gram outreach, in which the MomsRising.org team and partners delivered healthy oranges tagged with personal messages about the need for paid sick days. Due to our successful campaigning, the bill passed in the California Assembly. Now, MomsRising supporters are working hard to move the bill through the Senate, and then on to the Governor!

Facts to inspire you:
The lack of paid sick days is a liability for public health, for people, and for businesses. That's because when people are forced to come to work sick, they risk spreading contagions to colleagues and consumers--and of getting sicker themselves. Sadly, nearly half of all full-time workers do not have a single paid sick day. Worse yet, a whopping 86% of service sector employees (that includes cooks and waiters) don't have a single paid sick day. In all, nearly 6 million workers in California do not get a single paid sick day.
About the Paid Sick Days Bill:
The Paid Sick Days Bill (AB 2716) would allow a worker to use paid sick time for up to 40 hours or five days in each calendar year for workers at small businesses (10 employees or fewer), and 72 hours or nine days per calendar year for all other workers. They will earn that time at a rate of one hour of paid sick time for every 30 hours worked. This legislation also covers victims of domestic violence who could use paid sick days to care for their physical, psychological, and legal needs.
