Moms’ health matters because their family depends on them. That’s the overwhelming sentiment received from our Facebook and Twitter followers.

At text4baby, we understand that moms are busy, and pregnant women and new moms may not have time to read everything there is about this important period in their lives. “When I was pregnant, text4baby felt like a friend, like an extra support network checking in. Whether it was a quick tip or information about what was happening inside my body, as a busy working mom, it was helpful to receive the messages,” says Cassie G., a text4baby mom.

AA mom newborn (2)Dr. J. Nwando Olayiwola, another text4baby mom, juggles family life and being a doctor. She spends so much time caring for her children and patients, that it can become easy to forget her own health. While pregnant with her second child, Dr. Olayiwola signed up for text4baby and received three free customized messages that helped her make healthy choices for herself and her baby.

“Even though I'm a physician, I'm also a busy mom who appreciates getting brief updates and reminders sent to me, especially through the convenience of my cell phone,” said Dr. Olayiwola. “The best part of text4baby is that the messages are not only relevant, but they are supportive and accurate!

In honor of Women’s Health Week and this most recent Mother’s Day, there is no greater gift we can give to moms than the gift of her health.

Please help us in this effort by telling pregnant women and moms with babies under one year to sign up for text4baby by texting “BABY” (or BEBE for Spanish) to 511411.

They will then receive three free text messages a week, timed to their due date or their baby's birth date, on critical topics such as prenatal care, developmental milestones, immunizations, nutrition, safe sleep and much more.

Anyone can help. The text4baby 2013 State Enrollment Contest is launching this week, and it’s a great opportunity for you to make a difference in helping your state win and connecting women with essential health and safety information. Visit text4baby.org for details.

Text4baby is a powerful free resource for reaching women with key information. Women who use text4baby feel more confident because they are armed with the knowledge that leads to better health for them and their babies. Let's get text4baby into the hands of women and give them the gift of a life time.
