I’m really peeved with the media. I’m getting tired of seeing these so-called “Obamacare horror stories” when I watch TV or read the news when, in reality, over five million people have gained healthcare coverage thanks to the Affordable Care Act and many millions of people are getting financial assistance to afford healthcare coverage for the first time. Time is tight! Open enrollment for this year ends in just 12 days, on March 31st, and we’ve got to challenge the media to more accurately report the healthcare coverage options under the Affordable Care Act. Will you join me in calling for the media to share accurate information about the Affordable Care Act? http://action.momsrising.org/lte/ACA_Success_deadline_LTEs It's easy! When you click on the link above, we'll lead you through a quick process to write a Letter to the Editor of your local newspaper. This tool is pretty magical - you can easily edit our pre-drafted letter, if you wish, and send it to your paper with just a few clicks. The pre-drafted letter (which you can edit!) is logical, concise, and simply says:

"With over 5 million people enrolled in affordable health coverage thanks to the Affordable Care Act (ACA), it’s difficult to understand why your news outlet isn't covering more stories about people who have received affordable coverage as part of health reform. Sharing stories of success is not only accurate; it's helpful. Every time a story is shared about a person who was able to get affordable health insurance on the new exchanges, people who thought they were not eligible or could not afford coverage will investigate their coverage options. With millions of people uninsured in this country, we can't afford to cover only political talking points rather than facts. Open enrollment via healthcare.gov ends March 31st - it's not too late to do your readers and our region a service by reporting health coverage success stories. Sincerely,"

Taking a quick moment to use our easy platform now to write a Letter to the Editor of your local paper is a powerful tool to change the media's coverage of this issue. Many people who are uninsured, and who need that last push, will get inspired and motivated to take action after reading about people like them who have successfully signed up for affordable coverage! We at MomsRising have heard hundreds of success stories ourselves. Here are just a few:

“I’m a MomsRising member from San Diego who is a college professor working four part-time jobs that don’t offer health coverage. For more than a year, I spent every moment terrified and ridden with anxiety. Unable to get private coverage because of a pre-existing condition, I worried daily about what would happen to our family if we had a medical emergency. Thankfully, my family and I signed up for a new health plan made possible through the Affordable Care Act and we’re now covered.” Somer, California “I’m really excited and appreciative of the Affordable Care Act. For the first time in my life, I’m beginning to trust that my health needs will be taken care of.” Kristi, Washington “The new healthcare law is making a huge difference in our lives! My husband and I were paying $690 per month for our 28-year-old son to have health insurance as a graduate student. Now, my son was able to sign up easily for a quality plan that is costing him nothing because he’s a student!” Avis, New York

I think these moms’ stories are important, and I want the media to accurately cover the new affordable healthcare options that are available until March 31st. Help us propel accurate reporting forward, including stories like these, by sending a Letter to the Editor today using our amazing (and easy!) tool: http://action.momsrising.org/lte/ACA_Success_deadline_LTEs Join me in urging news outlets to accurately cover healthcare stories today. Together we can make sure the media accurately reports the opportunities for affordable healthcare coverage that are open now through March 31st. After you click the link to send your Letter to the Editor, please share this post to friends on Facebook and Twitter. The more of us who send letters, the bigger the impact we'll have together.
