The holiday season is a great time for making people smile, and also for helping grow the size of our movement. You, our members, are the key source of great ideas and power behind the dynamism of MomsRising.
We’re inspired by some of the great things other groups are doing: Environmental Defense is sending members a new holiday song to share with others, and is holding a YouTube video contest; The Center for a New American Dream is creating small ornaments for people for whom donations are being given on behalf of; and some other groups are providing members with custom e-holiday cards–cute and clever pictures have a way of getting passed along!
Please put on your creative thinking cap! Is there something MomsRising could offer members for the Holidays? What would tickle your fancy? Do you have ideas about fun ways to invite more friends to join us? Ideas for e-card graphics or great sayings to go with a holiday greeting are also greatly appreciated.
We’re excited to hear your ideas!

December 8, 2006 at 2:22 am by AnonymousI raised seven children alone for a very long time; we had very little money and no decorations for our tree. I decided to have my children be creative and find things around the house we could turn into tree decorations. We made cut out teddy bears out of material, tinfoil stars, using the bottoms of plastic bottles, gluing ribbon or braided yarn we would put last years Christmas cards in the windows, and little one’s handprints look great with child’s pictures in the middle. Every year we would add something new–until the children had their own decorations when they grew up. We would even think up themes and make our trees different. One year, my granddaughter had a thing for kites. I took bright color paper and made tiny kites, some white paper with glued cotton balls for clouds, and rainbows. The top of the tree was a big sun.

December 8, 2006 at 12:45 am by AnonymousWith more amd more women in the work force, family needs are foresaken due to economics. It is hard enough to work 40 hours a week, but with mandatory overtime it is impossible for Moms and Dads to take care of family needs. Americans are working an average of 50+ hours a week, Canadians average 37.5 hours, Australians averages 36 hours and many countries in Europe have a 4 day work week. Americans get less paid vacation than any of these countries. Our time is not ours anymore.
It is time for all of us to start demanding our time back, time to develop those family values we keep hearing about. Time is not a renewable resource. We must find a way to get more time with the people we care about. We must invest our time in our children. If we are still the greatest country in the world, why are we working ourselves to death instead of growing our families?

December 8, 2006 at 12:25 am by AnonymousEbates.com rebates a percentage of your on line purchases from several companies. If MomsRising.org opened an account with them, Ebates.com, they could earn $5 for everyone of us that join upon their reccomendation and use the site. The account may need to be in the name of the leader, but someone could check that out.

December 7, 2006 at 11:59 pm by AnonymousI need to know how this group intends to present it’s self. If this group is anti-choice,I can not in good conscience support you. Women have gone too far in the fight for women’s rights to go back now. This is a Holiday issue as we work together with all women and advocate for them. Blessings to all

December 7, 2006 at 10:34 pm by AnonymousI found that standing my 6 mo old up on a xerox machine and making photo quality copies makes a great black and white print of their feet(can also copy hands). Just cut and glue onto a card. Inexpensive and each one is one of a kind.

December 7, 2006 at 10:31 pm by Anonymousmore and more moms are using facebook and myspace to keep track of their kids, but also network with other moms. I know in my area, near a military base, civilian and military moms and wives are connecting with Myspace… maybe Mom’s Rising should create a blog banner to reach out to that community. It’s not necessarily “fun for the e-card” but i think you’ll reach a lot of new moms that way

December 7, 2006 at 10:02 pm by AnonymousMost of us moms have to work these days. I love spending time with my little ones but sometimes I have trouble coming up with fun ideas. I think that readers giving fun art projects for different age groups would be great. I found one the other day where you trace your childs foot and trace your childs hand. You cut the hand out of brown construction paper and cut the foot out of green construction paper, glue the hand on the top of the foot, glue on wiggly eyes and a little red ball for the nose and you have a precious little reindeer to keep forever. More ideas would be great for any time of the year.

December 7, 2006 at 9:33 pm by AnonymousSince our daughter arrived, we always look for a fun, personalized holiday card that would include our own photo. I’d love to see my face and my daughter’s face on your logo, each wearing Santa Claus hats..!! What a cute holiday card to send to friends.

December 7, 2006 at 9:12 pm by AnonymousThis is not really holiday-related, but MomsRising definitely needs a myspace.com page to gain more exposure to the twenty-something mothers out there like me. Many non-profits have pages on this site which is visited by millions of people each day. And it’s free!

December 7, 2006 at 8:55 pm by AnonymousAlthough not glamorous, practical can be hip and appreciated. Because all mothers want the world to be a better place for their children, a copy of Al Gore’s ‘An Inconvient Truth’ will motivate conversations and action to care for Mother Earth. To add the wow factor, how about a value pack of enery saving light bulbs, which over time, make a significant difference in lowering CO2 emissions.
