Pittsburgh Mayor William Peduto received a resounding thank you from about 300 volunteers, grateful that he is making children’s access to health insurance a top priority through the Healthy Together campaign. The goal of Healthy Together is to enroll 100 percent of children and youth in the City of Pittsburgh in quality, affordable healthcare. A group of mothers delivered their card at an appreciation party hosted by Allies for Children and MomsRising, an online and on-the-ground grassroots organization of more than a million people working to achieve economic security for families in the United States.

Attendees learned more about the state of health insurance access in Pittsburgh, including the fact that 2,000 children are uninsured. Mothers like Melanie Boyer, who obtained coverage for her family with help from the Consumer Health Coalition, and the City of Pittsburgh’s Chief Urban Affairs Officer Valerie McDonald-Roberts all shared the same message–We should make it every mother’s goal to make sure no child she meets goes uninsured.

Moms immediately spread the word. About a dozen mom bloggers live tweeted the event using #Enrollobot, which is the Healthy Together mascot name.

Children expressed appreciation through art and created thank you cards featuring Enroll-o-bot. They also made super hero masks and capes to reinforce the message that to be active they must be healthy.
