Thanks to voices like yours, 2 million families across America were able to keep food on the table after the holidays when unemployment insurance was extended for two months. That’s right: In December, unemployment insurance was set to expire for millions unless Congress extended the critical benefit before the year ended.
MomsRising members’ letters were part of a huge chorus of smart and compassionate voices that helped establish a two-month extension by saying that not only does ending federal unemployment insurance hurt families struggling to find work; it also weakens our struggling economy.
We need your voice again! Can you join us online at the White House via Twitter and Facebook tomorrow — Thursday, January 19th at 9AM PST/12PM EST and follow the hashtag #MomsatWH on twitter or go to the MomsRising page on Facebook? Let us know!

Now is the time to make sure unemployment benefits are extended through the end of 2012! It is expected that at least one million UI recipients will be cut off of federal benefits in March alone if the program is allowed to expire. Millions more are slated to lose this crucial safety net during the remainder of this year [1].
We know unemployment insurance isn’t the only pressing issue families want addressed in 2012: Childcare, health care, fair wages, paid sick days, paid family leave after a new baby arrives, environmental health, and more are also priorities.
What are your priorities? Can you join us online at the White House via Twitter and Facebook tomorrow — Thursday, January 19th at 9AM PST/12PM EST and follow the hashtag #MomsatWH on twitter or go to the MomsRising page on Facebook? Let us know!

And here are those two sample Tweets again for you to use:

- I’m a #parent & I need #unemploymentinsurance 2 keep our family going right now. Can @WhiteHouse help? #MomsatWH
Extending unemployment insurance is critically important–and discussing them in a public forum with the White House is a powerful way to broaden support for families who are struggling and helping our economy. One study found that every $1 spent on employment insurance stimulated $2 in growth in the U.S. economy. [2]

January 18, 2012 at 8:15 pm by Ana Maria Fores TamayoEveryone needs help, but if we want to help our future generations–our children–then we need to help the majority of instructors who are working as contingent faculty: adjuncts teaching college students have more than doubled since 1970. We need to stand up for higher education; we need to put the contingent faculty who are teaching most of the students–60% of most colleges and universities in the US, with up to 80% in community colleges–on the national agenda.
Over 60% of educators in higher ed are paid shamefully low salaries, and we cannot keep subsisting this way, and keep teaching our children–giving them our all–if we have no help. I have started a petition for the adjuncts of America: can you take a look and sign it, so we might make a difference? http://signon.org/sign/better-pay-for-adjuncts.fb1?source=c.fb&r_by=426534
Teaching a semester of English composition–with over 30 students in class–and being compensated $1800 for that semester is not equitable pay. Though some might make up to $4000 a semester, most of us are on that lower side of the spectrum… I am. Take a look at what the adjuncts signing the petition are saying: it is extremely revealing! So please help us. Help our children. Help the future of America. If we want to stay #1, we need to change something in the way education works now. Sign this petition, so that maybe Obama will take notice, and make this his next priority!
Please sign!
