It’s Showtime for Health Reform!
Posted November 6th, 2009 by Donna NortonIf you’ve turned on the TV this week, you may have noticed that opponents of health reform have stepped up their efforts to scare families into opposing health reform. Why the frenzied pitch? Because after almost a year of debate, the House of Representatives is expected to vote on its health reform bill as early as this weekend. And the vote is expected to be very close.
Tell your Congressperson, “For the sake of our families, vote YES on the House health reform bill, The Affordable Health Care for America Act.”
Despite the efforts to incite fear about health reform, moms aren’t easily scared. Collectively, we’ve pushed babies through impossibly small openings, soothed colicky infants in the wee hours of the morning, toilet trained intransigent toddlers, and disciplined angry adolescents. We’d move mountains for our families and we expect our leaders to stand with us by voting yes on the House health reform bill – H.R. 3962
Why do we support the bill?
It would provide real stability and security for our families:
* It would allow you to keep your current health insurance and doctors if you like them.
* But if you lost your job or have a small business that struggles to find affordable healthcare coverage, or are currently uninsured, you could buy affordable, comprehensive insurance at group rates through a new insurance exchange.
* The bill also provides needed subsidies so that health insurance premiums will be affordable for working families.
* Helps ensure comprehensive benefits including maternity coverage and eliminates out-of-pocket expenses for preventive care like mammograms and well baby and well child visits.
* And finally, we’d have consumer protections so that insurers cannot deny us coverage because we have pre-existing conditions or charge us more, just because we are women.
Is the bill perfect? No. But is it the best shot we’ve seen in our lifetimes to finally start fixing our broken healthcare system that leaves 46 million people in America without health insurance and so many others insured only until they actually get sick? YES!
After Tuesday’s elections, some Members of Congress are feeling very nervous about their constituents’ support for health reform. This is the moment to rally all your friends and family to say YES to health reform. Please send a letter to your Representative now and forward this message far and wide.
P.S. Check out these great photos of Members of Congress who have answered your call to wear the MomsRising pacifier lapel pin in Congress to symbolize that they won’t be pacified until we get health reform done and get it right for kids and families: http://www.momsrising.org/page/were-pinning-our-hopes-you-because-children-need-health-reform-too

Since when has our federal government ever run anything well? It scares me that they are going to take over health care. I’m sorry to all you moms out there who think that the government can solve all your problems. It can’t. But it can certainly make them worse. A government handout to help struggling moms pay for health care would be less expensive and less intrusive in the long run.

November 8, 2009 at 9:56 pm by David PampuchDonna, Julia, Kristin, Ashley, Dionna, Anita, and the MomsRising.org Team have created more spending in congress and it is about time they stop. Let’s get rid of these liberals and their democratic friends. Vote against any democrat that wears any lapel pin that represents this government money funded organization. Stop the insane spending forced upon Americans by Momsrising.org.

November 7, 2009 at 12:15 pm by RebeccaPush for a NO on the health care reform bill. It is fiscally irresponsible and not in the best interest of the majority of Americans. There are many ways we could reduce health care costs without a government take over. Similar programs have failed in any country or state they have been attempted. Let’s learn from history and move forward. Please inform yourself!
